Marighella (2011)

For decades, my uncle Carlos Marighella was a damned name, a character banished from history, cloaked in a cloud of hatred and ignorance, having spent part of his short and intense existence in hiding. Dark skinned, from Bahia, communist militant, member of the Constituent Assembly, author of the world-famous Minimanual of the Urban Guerrilla, guerrilla himself. In the 1960s, he became the "public enemy number 1" of the military dictatorship. In 1969, he was murdered on a street in São Paulo.

In recent years, the name Carlos Marighella is finally being rescued from the fog to occupy an important place in the pantheon of Brazilians who fought for a better and fairer country.

Marighella is a quasi-archaeological film that sought clues in the record of the memory of those who knew him, to draw a more complete and complex profile of this "secret" man. Memories filtered by the imprecision of time, the subjectivity of the deponents, and of my own - niece that I am of this mythical man that, at home, was only a very dear and special uncle.
